«The aim of this article is to analyze different perspectives through which reading changes concerning the world of representation and social protection. The crisis of traditional modern society, its securities and the weakness of the premises of the “social pact”, increase the need to answer how the traditional institutions face new kind of problems about safeguard  of rights on job, precarisation of labor market and new working qualities. Inside this questions lies also the phenomenon of representation, meant anymore as social pact among subjects and Modern State, rather as contestation of former guaranties and construction of new nets of “self-construction”. The first part of this essay is an historical and theoretical re-construction since the birth of very first Social State, with all its social innovations and contradictions, till the crisis of fordism and the beginning of post-fordism, and the incoming of “financial capitalism”. The red line of this part concerns the hypothesis of reading the phenomenon of representation inside the social problem of precarisation, meant as an historical dimension not only closed to the last global capitalism bat to all the “valorization process” of development of capitalism. The second part instead is a possible key of lecture to analyze the arising forms of representation and the contestation of formers. It’s about individualization theory by the German sociologist Ulrich Beck, inside post-modern theories, which explains how the old pillars of modern society can live a “second modernization”, or “reflexive”, so to produce new answers to face risks of global society. Representation in this sense is social process, a construction by several actors and social subjects. What comes out from these pages is a frame of representation “very open” to a deep sociological reflection, including a multitude of elements coming from the past and news still to come out.»
